Description:

A 30 centimetre (12 inch) tsunami hit Japan's northern Pacific coast on Sunday after a massive earthquake struck Chile the day before, Japanese media reported. The tsunami was recorded in the town of Nemuro, 973 km (605 miles) northeast of Tokyo, national broadcaster NHK reported. Officials have ordered some 245,000 households along Japan's Pacific Coast to evacuate to higher ground after Saturday's quake struck Chile, killing more than 300 people.
