Description: A weather front brought snow and a reminder that winter is still very much in full swing. The latest blizzard is unfolding over southern Bulgaria and this weather system will later envelop most of the country, the Bulgarian meteorological website was quoted as saying on March 8. The snow cover will accumulate progressively, nationwide. The southern Black Sea will be exposed to snowfall which will later switch to rain, while snow will dominate in the north. Average temperatures for the country will fluctuate between -2C and 3C while for Sofia they will be at about -2C. Intense snowfall is expected in the mountains, with temperatures at 2000m expected to plummet to well below -10C. Strong southeasterly winds will prevail in the mountains and they will reach hurricane intensity, according to the report. On the Black Sea coast, winds will reach up to 18m a sec. Precipitation in Bulgaria over the next 36 hours is expected to be heavy, in places severe. According to the meteorological report, northwestern Bulgaria is expected to see up to 20 litres a sq m, whereas in the southeast, near the border with Turkey and Greece, precipitation could be as high as 40 litres a sq m.
