Description:

4 infants die and 17 ill following tetanus and anti-measles vaccination at Anganwadi centres in Damoh, Madhya Pradesh. About 20 infants were given these vaccines this Friday afternoon in 2 Anganwadi centres in Damoh. Out of these 20 children, 4 died by Sunday afternoon and the remaining were admitted to a hospital. They are in a critical situation. Investigations stated that this resulted due to the negligence and carelessness of a nurse. Henceforth, all vaccination programmes have been suspended by the district administration awaiting the results of the investigation. Dr DK Shrivatava, chief medical and health officer stated that the “cold-chain or sub-zero temperature under which the vaccine has to be stored seemed to have been ignored or broken.”
