Description: One woman was killed and 38 other people injured by flying debris in Japan yesterday as winds gusting to 137 kilometers (85 miles) per hour damaged buildings and snarled air travel. A 47-year-old woman was killed in Kitakyushu City, western Japan, after she was apparently struck by storm-blown roof fragments, the Asahi newspaper said. Thirty-eight people were injured in eight prefectures, public broadcaster NHK reported. Japan Airlines Corp. canceled 66 flights affecting 11,000 passengers, and All Nippon Airways Co. cut 34 flights affecting 4,300, according to faxed statements from the carriers. A rapidly developing low-pressure system brought strong winds and rain across much of Japan yesterday, and will linger until this evening, according to statements on the Web site of the Japan Meteorological Agency. The agency also issued a nationwide yellow dust warning yesterday, saying dust from a sandstorm in China may limit visibility through today. Beijing was blanketed in yellow dust yesterday as the sandstorm hit the capital, prompting government health warnings. The city government raised its pollution warning to the highest level on March 19 in anticipation of the storm, according to the China Meteorological Administration.
