Description: Nine persons have died from cerebrospinal meningitis in Gombe State, the Commissioner of Health Dr. Umar Isa has said. The commissioner who disclosed this yesterday while speaking with newsmen, said 94 cases had been reported this year. He added that 10 persons were still receiving treatment while the others had been treated and discharged, noting that the disease had spread across the 11 local government areas of the state with the exception of Nafada and Billiri Local Government Areas. Umar said the victims were between the ages of 5 and 15. The commissioner said his ministry had embarked on immunisation with preference to places with records of the disease as well as identified densely populated areas, like prisons, schools and the NYSC orientation camp. He added that the state had since taken delivery of 30, 600 doses of the CSM vaccines and had been distributed them to all general hospitals in the state. He said treatment of the disease was free.
