Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi’s government today declared a state of emergency to boost funding for the clean-up of last week’s diesel and fuel oil spill into the Lambro river. The spill later reached the Po, Italy’s biggest river. The state of emergency was declared at a Cabinet meeting in Rome, according to an e-mailed statement.
