Event: Snow Storm
Location: Spain East-Northeastern areas

Situation:

The Spanish weather forecasters are saying there will be two more Atlantic storms and another wave of cold polar air hitting Spain before Spring starts on March 21. They say the rain will return to many areas at the weekend and temperatures will remain low. The last part of the front which brought the heaviest snows for 25 years to Barcelona this week has left more snow in Palma de Mallorca. Temperatures plummeted to two degrees this morning and the entire island of Mallorca is on weather alert as fresh snow fell over the island. Meanwhile the Government said on Wednesday morning that 50,000 homes in Gerona are still without power, some of them already approaching 48 hours. 100,000 in the region were without power last night as heavy snow brought down 14 high tension cables and 33 pylons. 40,000 are still without land line phones and 50% of users in Cataluña still have no mobile coverage. The good side from all the rain is that nationally the reservoirs are now at 79% of their capacity and water supply, both for human consumption and for agriculture is guaranteed for a year.
