Description:

Nine passengers from an airplane departing Charlotte Douglas International Airport Tuesday morning were taken to the hospital after being overcome by fumes. The plane was set for take off for Montego Bay, Jamaica, when several people reported smelling a foul odor or electrical smell. The airplane then returned to the gate. According to medics, passengers complained of symptoms associated with exposure to toxic fumes. Two pilots, two flight attendants and two passengers are being treated as a precaution. The other passengers will continue their travel plans on another flight. A USAirways spokesperson also said HAZMAT crews inspected the plane and found no air quality problems. The aircraft, tail number 251, has been taken out of service, USAirways told WBTV. All other passengers will continue to Montego Bay with a new aircraft and crew and is set to depart at 12:45 p.m. Eastern time, USAirways said.
