Description: A late winter snow storm has put the metro and the state of Oklahoma on emergency alert as snow blankets the Sooner State. “I encourage all citizens to stay inside,” said Lt. Gov. Jari Askins at joint news conference of state and Oklahoma City emergency management. “If you do go outside, please be careful, even walking.” All 77 counties are under a winter advisory, and -- in the metro -- salt and sand truck crews are out making sure roads are as safe as possible, leaders said. “We have a lot training,” Askins said, referring to this season of winter storms. “A lot of practice in doing this.” Oklahoma City Police are only working injury accidents in light of the weather conditions said city manager Frank Barnes. With the NCAA men’s basketball tournament in town, the city hired a contractor to work in the downtown area to keep streets clear. Games resume Saturday afternoon at the Ford Center. And the end of spring break for most school districts means flights in and out of Will Rogers Airport could be in jeopardy. “A lot of people trying to get back,” said Karen Carney, a spokeswoman for the airport. “The airlines are trying to work in and around the weather conditions.” Carney said so far Continental Airlines is the only carrier to cancel all departing flights and most of its arrivals.
