Description:

A 28-year-old woman in Tay Ho district was hospitalized at the Central Hospital for Tropical Diseases on March 12 in serious condition, but has been released. The patient was first treated at a private hospital, but failed to recover. She was moved to Central Hospital for Tropical Diseases with poisoning symptoms, dehydration and exhaustion, reported Nguyen Hong Ha, the deputy director of Central Hospital for Tropical Diseases on March 17. After five days, the woman completely recovered and left the hospital on March 17. This is the first cholera case in Hanoi for 2010. The Central Epidemiology Institute has been investigating the possible source of the cholera. Also on March 17, experts said that the H1N1 epidemic has not spread in the last several months. This flu accounts for 18 percent of cases that need testing. Meanwhile, the H5N1 epidemic is expanding. So far this year, Vietnam has had five bird flu patients and two resulting deaths. The latest case is a 3-year-old girl in Binh Duong province who died on March 17. Last year Vietnam reported five H5N1 cases, all of which ended in death.
