Description:

An Icelandair Boeing 757-200, registration TF-FIV performing flight FI-680 from Seattle,WA (USA) to Keflavik (Iceland), was enroute about half way into the flight at FL350 at approximate position N64 W91 at 02:45Z (Mar 21st), when the crew decided to divert to Boston,MA (USA) following a volcano eruption in southern Iceland, that closed all suitable airports in Iceland. The airplane landed safely in Boston 3:20 hours later. A volcano at Eyjafjallajokull glacier in Southern Iceland had started a small eruption at around 23:30Z (Mar 20th) sending ash clouds up to FL200 so far. The Icelandic CAA closed the airspace 120nm around the volcano for all aircraft.
