Description:

At least 10 cow were found dead in Chhani area of the city after they are believed to have consumed grass laced with pesticide. The bodies of the cows were found strewn around various locations in Chhani area on Saturday morning. According to officials, the reports regarding cows dying in different areas stated trickling in the morning. While officials initially thought the deaths were isolated, they were alarmed when the number started swelling. It later transpired that the cows may have died after consuming grass from a near garbage container of Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC). The container is located behind Sitaram super market and is used by nearby societies and party plots to dispose their waste. "Prima facie it seems that the grass that the cow consumed had high contents of pesticide in it. It's lawn grass that may have been thrown near the bin after tendering a lawn in a premise in the locality," VMC's Chhani ward officer Nitin Solanki said. Solanki added that while it is difficult to put a count to the exact number of cows that died in the incident, initial reports indicated that 10 to 12 may have died in the incident.
