Event: Tropical Storm
Location: Fiji Fiji-wide

Number of Deads: 1 person(s)

Situation:

A 31-year-old woman is dead after huge waves swept her just metres from a beach in Vanua Levu Sunday while attending to family rituals. Tamarisi Tabua was at a beach along Namilamila Bay, Cakaudrove with three daughters and two grandchildren removing bandages from her circumcised grandson when massive waves lashed on to the beach and took them to sea. Daughter Alanieta said massive waves came on to the beach and swept them, her four year old daughter included. But her mother was not able to withstand the five minute ordeal after struggling to swim back to shore with the four year old. “When she got near to me, she threw my daughter to me then the sea swallowed her,” Alanieta said. Police are urging people to move to higher ground away from the sea.
